DBS Surgery

We learned today about DBS.  Maya has an appointment 2/23/15 and she can't wait.

On 2/23/2015 Maya has an appointment at Loyola Hospital to see a doctor concerning her new surgery.  DBS stands for Deep Brain Stimulation.  As you know, Maya's condition is called Dystonia 2, in which case she doesn't have deformity but just can't control her movements.  The procedure consists of implantation of a tiny generator in her brain, along with leads that will run in her neck area, under her skin, and then connect to the globus palidus internus and stimulate the neuronal activity.  She will gain better movement control of her upper body and this is mostly with what we are concerned with.  She may even have better movement in her legs.  We would like to see improvement in her back, since she is starting to develop some spinal deformity.
I explained this to Maya today and she smiled a huge contagious smile.  She is looking forward to the appointment, so I sent Dr. Keen an email asking a couple of more questions that I need answered and went from there.  Maya has a heart of a winner.  My daughter makes me so proud, she will not settle for anything less than a limitless outlook to everything.  She quickly asked me to help her pray, we did that together alone earlier today.  These moments for me are the very special ones in my life.
I have asked the Lord for Maya to have movement enough to be able to work an electric wheel chair so that she is able to move about where she wants to move to.  I know the Lord's work is in progress because I have placed it in his hands and I have that faithful feeling lurking about me like I can't wait to see it happen, so it will.  I will keep everyone posted on all of this of course, but I wanted to give the heads up on the appointment that she is very excited about.
